Gather.com pays bloggers to write
Dozens of websites including About, Technorati, Bloglines, Topix, Squidoo, and Digg, are trying to organise and build communities around information available online. The latest entrant into this field is Gather.com , reported the Boston Globe this weekend. Gather.com’s founder and CEO is Tom Gerace, who also co-founded Be Free Inc.
Gather.com is………
a kind of eBay for online writers and their readers — a gathering spot for musings and discussions on everything from wine and computers to fitness and spirituality.
What makes this more attractive to people looking to make money online is their unusual business model which involves recruiting bloggers and offering them a share of the company’s advertising revenue.
Although the details have not been agreed, Gerace is considering a two-tier revenue sharing model where the most popular writers receive remuneration based on their article ratings, while others receive points credits that can be spent with online retailers.

I Don’t belive in that the small amounts paid to writers has the potential of producing good content.
If someone wants to write for money they will do better investing the time and effort to become professional bloggers with all what’s involved (mainly many hours a day).
People who write for some change will generally write populistic stuff. In a community journalism, I would like to see the stuff of people who write because they like writing or because they care about somehting.
Linkadelic Magazine: http://www.comagz.com/webmagazine/ is a good example of a community magazine where the writers can get the large exposure while still write occasionaly without need for lifetime commitment.
